Bathtub refinishing is known to only about 20% of Americans. The custom for most of us has been to replace bathroom fixtures instead of refinishing them. The tight economy and the green movement are forcing many to reconsider their bathroom remodeling needs with a view to saving money. It is a known fact that a replacement bathtub can cost as little as $100, but what many people don't realize is that when you add the cost of a contractor, demolition, removal, disposal, paying a tile setter and a plumber, you can see how quickly the cost goes up to $2500.



While some rebuilds are simple, you may not feel comfortable taking on the bigger jobs. To ensure that everything is done well and done correctly, consider talking to a contractor. He can also help you envision what you need to make your bathroom the room you've always wanted without a complete remodel.

Now that your tub has legs, you can remove the jacking material and allow the tub to stand by itself. If it doesn't sit level you'll need drop in tub with tile to install space washers on the legs until it does. You may only need a few washers, or possibly none, unless your house is badly out of level.

Drain guards are the best option in preventing clogging in bath reglazing tub and sinks as they can trap hair and other debris preventing them from entering the drain. A lint trap on the discharge hose of your washing machine prevents clogging as well. Hygiene should be ensured with regular cleaning of drain guards, bathtub and sinks.

If your existing bathtub is pink or aqua, I can see your point. In that case, reglazing might be an option. This is not inexpensive, but will eliminate the struggle of getting the bathtub out of it's existing space.

Start with the walls: I just finished refinishing the walls of our Airstream Landyacht with a wonderful product that is trowelled on and sticks to anything. It is called Lustrestone. It brings drab to its knees with a shimmery, yet stoney look; and can be done any number of color combinations. After removing the window cornices and patching any holes, a few coats and it's better than new. The bath tub restoration walls were done with a different color of Lustrestone, then stencilled with a bamboo trellis. The challenge was to work with the uneven angles of a motorhome. The bedroom walls were done in a faux lepoard skin which has transformed it into a lush, cozy room, and separate from the rest.

Reorganize the clutter. If your bathroom is driving you nuts because it's unorganized and messy, it can really ruin your spirits. Can your problem be solved by adding more storage space or additional tower racks? If so, you've got an easy job. Look into investing in a bathroom vanity. These beautiful pieces of furniture can instantly transform a bathroom with its' distinct characteristics and abundant storage space. You can either go with a single or a double vanity, which has the ability to save you tons of time in the morning when you're used to hurrying your roommate or significant other out of the bathroom. It also leaves you with an easy way to clean up after yourself, and can neatly hold all of your toiletries.

If you have the funds to immediately turn to professional water damage repair, or just do not have the time to do it yourself, you will not have to worry about doing these tasks. Some companies will come out right away no matter the time of day. However, if you have to wait a day or so for help, you can at least start these steps to get the best result.
